Marcus Schlüschen - Fine Art PhotographerMarcus was born and educated in Germany, where he was introduced to fine art and the pleasures of photography, which became his life long passion and profession.
He spent several months in Canada's Western provinces for English studies.. After his professional education in Germany, he returned to Alberta, as he was fascinated by the vast landscapes of the prairies and the awe inspiring Rocky Mountains.
Exploring the different avenues of his profession, he eventually specialized in the field of corporate and architectural photography. His earliest published work in Canada appeared on the cover of the Calgary Home Builders Association magazine. In subsequent years, his photography was featured in Western Living, Boulevard, BC Magazine, US - 'Success Magazine', and in political/cultural and corporate publications in Canada, Europe and the U.S.
His photographs were used in advertising for custom homes, electronics, hotels, campers, automobiles, product, office & fine furniture, hair design, finance, websites, industrial manufacturing, architectural & interior design, and even a brewery, to name a few.
His passion for black & white photography drew him to fine art portraiture, after moving to Vancouver Island with his family. Although many of his photography assignments require digital colour images, he is drawn to the unique qualities of true black & white film photography, for artistic portraits, as well as for his fine art black & white exhibition prints.
Due to the popularity of his custom black and white photographs, he now offers black & white film-based photography to clients who love the classic & timeless look of true black and white photographs, for family & personal portraits, as well as unique weddings.
Marcus is one of the few professional photographers, who stands with one foot in today's digital world, while with the other in the artistic world of black and white film photography.
His specialty of fine art black and white photography, lends his work a distinctive look, superbly suited for creative portraits and wedding photography with an artistic flair.
For most of his work, Marcus prefers working with medium-format cameras. When very large photographs with minute details are his aim, or image perspective controls are required, such as in architecture, he uses a large format, precision view camera.
Marcus draws on more than 20 years of experience in professional photography, and is inspired by the masters of black & white film photography, such as: Ansel Adams, Richard Avedon, Clyde Butcher, and John Sexton.
His custom crafted black & white photographs are defined by superb tonal qualities, uncommon in today's automated digital world.
